What is the EYFS?
The Early Years Foundation Stage is the framework that we focus on for under 5's. Within schools, the focus is on Key Stages, but within nursery and pre-school, we use the EYFS framework to ensure that each and every child meets their potential. No one gets bored and no one gets left behind. Everyone learns at their own pace, in ways that are meaningful and purposeful to them. Whether that's bringing numbers into messy play, or introducing interesting and new real-life props to role play, our focus is on making learning fun!

There are 3 Prime areas, considered the foundations for all other learning:

'Personal, Social and Emotional Development'

(How we learn to react, engage and respond to others, how we manage our feelings and emotions, and how we feel about ourselves and those around us)

'Communication'

(How a young person learns to listen and pay attention to the world around them, responding to sounds and familiar words, phrases and instructions, and uses these to learn how to communicate with others in a variety of ways).

'Physical Development'

(How a baby, infant or young child learns how to control the use of their body to learn how to roll, crawl, sit, all the way to riding a trike or climbing trees and using balancing over beams. Physical development also focuses on a child's fine motor skills and their developing ability to meet their self-care and personal care needs)

We focus mainly on the Prime areas for our 2s and under. Around their second birthday we complete a 2-year developmental review to go hand-in hand with your little one's progress check with the Health visitor. As the children continue to learn and grow we begin to extend their learning to cover the specific areas outlined below.

The Specific Areas of Learning:
Literacy:
(sharing and enjoying stories, rhymes and word/sound games, and noticing text/icons and familiar images in the environment).
Mathematics:
(Understanding numbers and what happens when something is added or removed. Beginning to show an awareness of weight, positional language and quantity).
Understanding the World:
(Appreciating the similarities and differences we share with others, respecting different backgrounds and cultures, noticing features of our environment and understanding both our place in the world and that of others).
Expressive Arts and Design:
(Exploring various media and materials, enjoying recreating scenarios through play, taking on/assigning roles through dance/acting and participating with others and learning new creative skills!)

We are devoted to providing a fun, engaging and nurturing atmosphere where children can explore and learn. Our curriculum is designed to foster social, emotional and cognitive development, through a balance of child-initiated activities and adult-directed tasks. Our approach includes incorporating seasons, festivals, events, and cultures into our yearly curriculum plans, and exploring individual children's interests in our in-the-moment planning. This approach provides  a unique learning experience that is both spontaneous and enchanting. Our nursery and pre-school are extremely well equipped with resources, scene setters, props and additional activities to create an exciting delivery of all things educational. Whether it's Going on a (sensory) Bear Hunt, building the 3 Little Pigs houses, fully designed to keep out the Big Bad Wolf, or observing the differences between light and dark by exploring the outside provision with torches in the late Winter evenings ~ every day's an adventure!
